What does ADA has to say about dental problems?

It is recommended by the American Dental Association that any knocked out teeth should be placed back or at least stored in a tooth preserving medium till a dentist works upon it. An Emergency Tooth Preserving System is a specially designed device to store a knocked-out teeth. With this device the tooth can be washed and reconstituted as it contains a cell-preserving medium and retaining net.

If such an arrangement couldn't be done then the tooth should be kept in a fresh, cold milk contained in a plastic container with a tightly fitting top. The tooth can be kept for two hours in this environment. Replanting a tooth is less expensive than replacing a front tooth. The former costs around $400 while the latter can go up to $10,000.

A knocked out teeth clinically termed as tooth avulsion, is a serious and wide spread problem. One out of every two hundred children may face with tooth avulsion and this may even lead to lifetime dental treatments. Modern dental technologies and procedures guarantees that no avulted teeth should be lost. The schools should be prepared for such accidents such that high costs of dental treatments can be avoided at a later stage.

A treatment for uprooted teeth as recommended by the American Dental Association, consists of replanting the affected tooth into its socket whitening by thirty minutes after the accident by splinting of it to the adjacent teeth and following the root canal procedure. However it may not be always possible to replant the tooth immediately. For the victim may be suffering from other more serious problem demanding immediate attention. But the avulted teeth should be stored in a nurturing medium until it is treated. This is important because the cells of the tooth degenerates within a few minutes when kept outside the mouth. Otherwise the tooth will not be accepted by the body if replanted.

Researches have shown that there exists a relation between oral disease and other health problems like heart disease, diabetes as well as low birth weight or even pre-term babies. There is evidence that proves that healthy mouth is important for a healthy life.
